First Successful SunVest (Crowd Funding) Solar PV System (April 2016)

In April 2016, we at SolarPVExchange, together with our crowd funding partner CoAssets (Southeast Asia’s first public listed crowdfunding site with offices in Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, China and Indonesia) successfully crowd-funded (which we like to call SunVest’ed) for the first ever Solar PV project in Singapore.

In fact, in less than a month, we managed to crowd fund more than the target amount of S$300k needed for the Solar PV system under Sunseap Leasing Pte Ltd.

This marked the first successful crowd funding campaign for a solar PV project in Asia (and possibly in the world).

About the project:

The system has a 202.125 KiloWatt-peak capacity and is built on an existing roof.

It all started on March 4thwhen we launched the crowd funding campaign online and the target was to raise S$300k in a month.

The premise was simple: invest in the project for one year and receive 7% interest on the amount invested, where the principle and interest are repaid to the individual’s bank account upon maturity.

In less than 3 weeks, we managed to raise 47% of the amount needed and that was primarily because investors were all trying to understand how it works and that took a bit of explanation (and some TLC from our SunVest consultants) to the potential investors. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank those of you for your time to make the journey to see us at our office and to talk to us.

So there was still a balance of 53% (or more than S$150k) to raise in the final week of this SunVest round and we were getting kind of nervous, to be honest.

Well, I guess, like the saying goes, if you have a good product, the customer will come, and true enough, by April 1st (2 days before the closing date), we managed to fully SunVest  (crowd fund) the project and hit our S$300k target with investors coming fast and furious.

In fact, in the final 2 days, we had many investors who came with investment and also enquiries and resulted in the project being Over Funded. Some made it in time while some didn’t, though we assured them that we will inform them as soon as possible once the next SunVest project is up.

Anyway, we achieved our target and successfully SunVest’ed (crowd funded) the first Solar PV project in Asia and this was all due to the help of our investors and partners. Many thanks.

We also took some time to speak to one of our investor, Mr Yeo on what he thinks about our SunVest, crowd funding for solar PV project.

SPVX:               Why did you decide to invest with us?

Mr Yeo:           A friend recommended this SunVest project to me. The investment had a pretty good return rate of 7% and the risk in the investment was rather low.

Also, this was a perfect opportunity to invest in a project, which allows me to achieve relatively good returns while helping to save the earth.

SPVX:               Do you feel the investment is safe/secure?

Mr Yeo:           Yes, I did research on the company and found it as a well-established solar firm with many big investors behind it, thus the risk of defaulting was low.

SPVX:               Besides this, we are sure you have other investments, could you share with us?

Mr Yeo:           Yes, I also have an investment plan and dabble in some other stocks/shares.

SPVX:               Thanks Mr Yeo.

About the Solar PV project:

New hire purchase scheme for residential projects!

Imagine (potentially) saving $7k (or more) per year, or more than $160k over 20 years on your electrician bill just by installing a solar pv system on your house. Well that’s what exactly will be happening to one residential who has just signed up for a solar pv system for his new home.

Located in the west of Singapore, this residential project of 29.92kWp (system size) consists of 95 panels which covers 190 square meters of his roof.

With this new solar PV system, the total energy will generate about 37,149.34kWh/year and 676,463.62kWh over 20 years. When converted to savings, he will save approximately $7,028.66 in a year and $162,128.78 in 20 years!

Not only that, he will also reduce his carbon footprint by 16 tonnes of CO2 and in 20 years it would be a whopping 292 tonnes of CO2. Not bad we must say.

Anyway, here’s a piece of good news for those of interest in going solar. We are currently offering a one year hire purchase scheme for your solar PV system so that you don’t have to fork out one huge sum but pay via interest free instalment over 12 months. Sign up with us now as an initiator and we will be in touch shortly.

And now we end off the post with a photo of our happy client! :) Ciao!

Solar 101 + SunVest

Solar 101 course (March 17-18)

On March 17 and 18, we conducted our Solar101 course (2 days) at the SEAS (Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore) training room. It was a full turnout with attendees coming from business owners, to government agencies and professionals who wish to join the solar industry. Apart from the class syllabus, our trainer also shared his personal experiences and knowledge from all the various interesting projects he has done.

It was an intensive 2 days given that many of the attendees came with loads of questions on solar PV installation and how it will save or earn them money while providing energy to their building. If you are interested in attending the next solar 101, do email us at

New regulations from SCDF

Hi guys! We are going to share a piece of news with you guys where probably not all of you will know about.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has come up with a set of Fire Safety Requirements (FSR) for those intending to install solar photovoltaic(PV) system on their building. This new regulation is applicable to roof mounted PV installations.

There should be at least on exit staircase, where the are of non-habitable roof is large and one-way travel distance to the exit cannot be met and an additional cat ladder or ship ladder to be adequately separated in accordance with CI.1.2.60 of Fire Code and leading to the circulation area of the floor below shall be provided

As for any existing buildings which are carrying out PV installations on the roof level where the provision of single exit staircase is not feasible, there should be a portal sturdy ladder to the roof access.

If access hatches are present it should be readily accessible from the roof and the access hatch opening should have a minimum clear width of 1000mm in diameter.

Along with these there are a number of other regulations that will be implemented which will definitely have an impact on those planning to install solar PV installation when it kicks in on 1st July 2016

We hope this piece of news will help you to understand better on the regulations of installing the solar PV system from 1st July 2016 onwards. If you would like to know more about the regulations or have any enquires you can contact us here. If you would like to get a quotation from us on installing a solar PV system you can join us as an initiator here or get a Sun Quote here. :)
